The Future of Carntyne's Winget Houses
18 Apr 2007
A pilot project aimed at determining the future of the defective Winget homes in Carntyne is being launched today.
The 986 Winget properties were defined as defective in 1987 and the structural problems with the properties have been known by the tenants and owners since then.
In consultation with the local community, Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) and Keystone Tenant Managed Homes Ltd Local Housing Organisation (LHO) - who manage the properties on GHA’s behalf - commissioned an options appraisal study in 2005 to determine the best course of action for the properties.
Now GHA and Keystone LHO have engaged CCG to undertake the eight month pilot project which is being carried out on four properties in Glencorse St and four in Gorebridge St. The project should determine whether it is possible to retain and improve the properties - by reinforcing them with either extra concrete or additional steel frames - or whether they will need to be demolished.
Margaret Crawley, Community Housing Manager of Keystone Tenant Managed Homes Ltd LHO added: “We see this as a major milestone in the regeneration of the Carntyne area and look forward to working with CCG and the residents on this important project.”
Paul Muldoon, Division Manager with CCG said “The pilot should pave the way for major transformation across the neighbourhood and CCG are delighted to be part of the delivery team.
