First Phase of Wishaw Regeneration Now Complete

The first phase of housing at Castlehill Road, Wishaw, is now complete, taking forward exciting regeneration plans to deliver new housing, amenities and green spaces, transforming and connecting the local community.

Phase 1, which is on the site of the former Caplaw Tower, was designed by Coltart Earley Architecture and sees 97 new council homes for rent delivered by CCG (Scotland) for North Lanarkshire Council in a mix of housing to suit all needs, including two and three-bedroom homes; one and two-bedroom cottage flats; various wheelchair houses including four-bedroom homes, two-bedroom cottage flats and two and three-bedroom bungalows, together with amenity housing which will adapt to future tenants’ requirements.

A specially-designed amenity house for local people to meet is also located within the masterplan, as well as a new child’s play park.

Housing Convener, Councillor Michael McPake, together with local councillor Fiona Fotheringham, attended the completion event and met with new tenant Mrs. Cathcart. Also attending were representatives from North Lanarkshire Council, Hub South West Scotland, Turner and Townsend and CCG.

Cllr McPake, said: “Today’s event marks a significant milestone in Gowkthrapple’s regeneration masterplan and the completion of the first phase of new housing for the area,” explained Housing Convener, Councillor Michael McPake.

“As part of the ambitious regeneration plans for Gowkthrapple, the council is progressing future phases of the masterplan starting with the demolition of the older flats and Allershaw tower. The intention is to replace these with modern homes, improved open space and infrastructure to fulfil the placemaking objectives of the overall masterplan for the area to create an attractive and well-connected neighbourhood.

“We continue to drive forward our new house building programme, delivering more new,
affordable and energy efficient homes for our residents. Our new homes are changing lives and
transforming local communities as well as delivering jobs, community benefits and boosting the economy. We’re committed to fulfilling our ambition to make North Lanarkshire the place to live.”

CCG was appointed to Castlehill Road through Hub South West Scotland’s housing framework. The development was constructed entirely using the offsite manufactured CCG’s iQ Timber System, integrated with CCG’s own PVCu windows and composite door sets, while all M&E services – sprinklers and solar panels – and utilities were installed by Group members, Arc-Tech (Scotland) and Arc-Tech MU, respectively.

A number of social value initiatives were also delivered during the course of the construction programme, including the creation of jobs (6), work placements (13), career-based events with local schools (14), and £5000 of community investment.
