The homes at Mount Pleasant were constructed by CCG (Scotland) on behalf of West Dunbartonshire Council in less than a year, transforming the former care home site into a vibrant community.
The masterplan, designed by Anderson Bell + Christie, comprises a mix of 19 homes, including flats, cottage flats, and bungalows.
Each home has a low-carbon source for space and hot water heating services, with air-source heat pumps installed in the terraced houses and exhaust air-source technology in the flatted block – the latter representing the first time such technology has been used to support new-build housing delivery in the region.
CCG’s advanced offsite construction methods, windows, and doors were used in the build, while the Council, to support elderly tenants, incorporated dementia-friendly design features into the flatted block. These include differentiated colours on walls, flat entrance doors, and common doors on each landing to help tenants recognise and remember where they are within the context of the building.
Convener of Housing and Communities, Councillor Gurpreet Singh Johal, said: “This is a welcoming and vibrant area which offers spacious and bright accommodation for older people in our community.
“I am delighted to hear that tenants are starting to settle in their new homes.”
Vice Convener of Housing and Communities, Councillor Hazel Sorrell, added: “It’s incredibly fitting that this site, a former care home, is now serving older members of our community, in a different and more modern way.
“It is an accessible site giving residents the freedom to get to public transport routes easily and quickly.”
