The three buildings represent a “creative re-use and restoration of historic buildings, signifying how new life can be brought to places and buildings through designs that have employed a lot of thought, inclusivity and sustainability.”
Among them is Paisley Central Library, delivered by CCG (Scotland) with hub West Scotland for Renfrewshire Council.
Designed by Collective Architecture, the project comprised the the redevelopment of former High Street retail premises into an educational and events hub for children and adults.
The building underwent a structural upgrade to deliver a sustainable, community-focused space that satisfies local needs and employs light and views to facilitate a harmonious atmosphere.
The judges commended the building’s capacity to “integrate into its street setting in a distinctly modern, confident yet quiet way.”
The judges also said that the project signifies “how underused high street buildings can be revitalized into inspirational spaces for learning and connection.”
The RIAS Andrew Doolan Award is one of the most prestigious to be granted to architects in Scotland, and we extend our very best wishes to Collective, who will be vying for the top prize in November.
