The Scholars, Greenock

Set within a well-established community in the west end of Greenock, ‘The Scholars’ comprises a range of 30 luxury terraced houses delivered by CCG Homes.

Located just off Madeira Street and within a short walking distance of the Greenock Esplanade, the site was once home to Greenock Academy. The school officially closed its doors in 2011 and was demolished in 2015, lying dormant and derelict until it was purchased by CCG Homes in 2024.

The key challenge for CCG Homes and its design partners, comprising MAST Architects and G3 Consulting Engineers, was the site’s steep topography and its proximity to both a local nursery and existing homes along the western boundary. These constraints ultimately led to the creation of eight blocks of terraced housing, comprising six three-bedroom homes and 24 four-bedroom terraced villas.

The terraced villa is an interpretation of the award-winning house type developed as part of Riverford Gardens, with a strong design emphasis on accommodating multigenerational families.

Following the commencement of construction in 2024, The Scholars was successfully sold out in 2026.
